Wildland Firefighters fight wild fires in different ways. The most common is to 'dig line', |
this is when the crew clears all brush, grass and debris, down to soil level 18 inches wide, |
using various tools, in an effort to stop the fire from spreading on the ground. |
Firefighters also do what is called 'Mop up', this is when they go into a burned area, |
and extinquish or remove burning material near the control lines. They cut down trees, |
dig up root systems, and put out smoldering 'hot spots'. |
