  Quinault Nation Fire Management issues all burn permits for the Quinault Reservation.

All outdoor burns with the exception of Cultural burns, and heating or cooking fires
need to have a Burn Permit.

  Quinault Fire Management follows and enforces the Federal Air Rules for Reservations (FARR).
FARR rules prohibit the burning of certain materials because they produce toxic chemicals.

 
  WHAT CANNOT BE BURNED:  
 
  • Garbage
  • Dead animals or parts of dead animals
  • Junked motor vehicles or any materials resulting from a salvage operation
  • Tires or rubber materials or products
  • Plastics, plastic products, or styrofoam
  • Asphalt or composition roofing, or any other asphaltic material or product
  • Tar, tarpaper, petroleum products, or paints
  • Paper, paper products, or cardboard
  • Lumber or timbers treated with preservatives
  • Construction debris or demolition waste
  • Pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or other chemicals
  • Insulated wire
  • Batteries
  • Light Bulbs
  • Materials containing mercury (e.g., thermometers)
  • Asbestos or asbestos-containing materials
  • Pathogenic wastes
  • Hazardous wastes
  • Any material that normally emits dense smoke or noxious fumes when burned

      WHAT FIRES ARE ALLOWED:  
         
    Cultural and traditiona fires are exempt from the outdood burning rule.

    The following activities are allowed under the FARR, except during a burn ban:

  • Burning paper, paper products, or cardboard necessary to start a fire
  • Burning paper, paper products, or cardboard that is generated at single-family
          residences or residential buildings with four or fewer dwelling units and is burned at
          the residential site
  • Burning natural vegetation (i.e., yard waste)
  • Recreational fires, provided no prohibited materials are burned
